Why was Howell Mountain chosen as the location?
With a strong tradition of producing world-class wines over the last 100 years, the Howell Mountain AVA is known as one of the most prestigious growing regions in Napa Valley. With its unique microclimates, soil types, and an altitude high above the valley floor, Howell Mountain was designated Napa Valley’s first AVA in 1983. We were afforded a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to purchase this land, steward a place for the next generations, and craft Modern Howell Mountain wines.

Who is the Winemaker?
Our Winemaker is the talented Danielle Cyrot, who is regarded as one of the most innovative, sustainability-minded winemakers in Napa Valley.
What does LEED Certified mean?
LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. This rating system evaluates a building’s sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality. We are proud to be Napa valley’s first 100% LEED Gold Certified winery. At CADE, this includes the use of:
- Recycled steel
- Concrete mixed with fly ash, a coal by-product that reduces the use of cement
- Naturally insulated caves and fermentation room; additional insulation from recycled materials, such as blue jeans
- Individually jacketed fermentation tanks
- Renewable resources such as cork flooring
- Structural glass and solar panels to minimize the use of electricity
- Grey water for irrigation
- Bike racks and electrical car outlets to encourage green transportation

What is the total acreage of the property?
CADE Estate sits on a total of 54 acres, with 21 acres planted to vines and 28 acres of which have been put in a land trust so that it will always remain open space.
