The 2023 CADE Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon has aromas of blackberry, black cherry, vanilla bean, boysenberry, graham cracker, violets, licorice, and white pepper. On the palate are flavors of chocolate-covered black cherries, mocha, raspberry coolie, and black currants. The wine is full-bodied with balanced yet bold structure. It finishes with some cassis, cocoa powder, and espresso flavors. The 2023 vintage was very cool and relatively condensed for Howell Mountain, but the finished wines are deeply colored, balanced in tannin and structure, and exhibit great aging potential.

CADE Estate is situated on a 54-acre property with 21 planted acres, located in the heart of Howell Mountain. Our CADE Reserve vines sit at elevations ranging from 1,500 to 1,850 feet, planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, and Petit Verdot. The 2023 vintage also features fruit from our 82-acre property on Howell Mountain, 13th Vineyard. Fruit was harvested from October 12 to November 1, 2023, which is a relatively short period of time compared to other vintages. The cool growing season preserved the balance of sugar and acidity and color/tannin ratios. It was really a waiting game in 2023, allowing the fruit to develop in flavor and before any significant rain events hit.
